About GutHealthRanked

GutHealthRanked is a digestive health publication for readers in the United States. Every health claim we print is tied to a source you can open and read yourself, and where the evidence is thin, contested, or narrower than the headlines suggest, we say so instead of rounding it up into advice.

Who publishes this site

GutHealthRanked is published by Succession Media. Articles are written and edited by the GutHealthRanked editorial team, and the team is accountable for what appears here.

The site has no individually named clinical reviewer, and we do not pretend otherwise. Our editorial standards page sets out exactly what that means, what our review process does cover, and what it does not.

What we cover

Digestion and the conditions, symptoms, foods, and products that people search for when something feels wrong: bloating and distension, bowel habits, food intolerances, fiber, fermented foods, probiotics, and the tests that get sold alongside them. We are interested in mechanism. A symptom with four possible causes does not have one answer, and most of the confusion online comes from writing as though it does.

We write for a United States audience. Product availability, labeling rules, and the regulatory context we describe are the ones that apply in the US, and our sources are weighted toward peer-reviewed literature, clinical practice guidelines, and US federal health agencies such as the National Institutes of Health.

What "ranked" means

The name is about ordering evidence before ordering products. A randomized controlled trial outranks an observational study, a systematic review of trials outranks a single trial, and a mechanism demonstrated in a laboratory outranks nothing at all until it has been tested in people. When two sources disagree, we tell you which one is built on stronger ground and why.

Where an article compares specific products, the criteria are written down on that page before the conclusion, so you can disagree with the ranking by disagreeing with the criteria. Ranking positions are never sold, traded, or adjusted for a commercial relationship. GutHealthRanked has no affiliate relationships. Our disclosures page sets out what pays for the site and what would have to be said if that ever changed.

What this site is not

This is general education, not individualized medical advice. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and nothing here is written with knowledge of your history, your medication, or your test results. A persistent, worsening, or frightening symptom belongs in front of a clinician who can examine you, and no article can do that job.
